On Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 5:00pm there will be a Community Rally honoring our Veterans and First Responders. The event will be held at the American Legion Post 110 located at 3152 Harbor Blvd., Port Charlotte, FL 33952.

This event is a kick-off for William R. Gaines Veteran Memorial Park.

On December 12, 2017 the Charlotte County Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 to approve a resolution proposed by the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board to rename Sunrise Park to the William R. Gaines Jr. Memorial Park.

"If we stay and achieve the freedom and stability that can only be achieved thru force (the people here are different; they don’t understand diplomacy, only force) and I die in the process, I feel that I would have died for a good reason. "
